What are Dyffryn Gardens?
Dyffryn’s magnificent Edwardian Grade I listed gardens were originally designed by landscape architect Thomas Mawson for John Cory, one time owner of Dyffryn House, around which the gardens are arranged. The collaboration of the two gentlemen, and further garden development by keen horticulturalist Reginald Cory has resulted in a collection of great lawns, intimate garden ‘rooms’ and an arboretum of rare and unusual trees from around the world.

Dyffryn is an exceptional example of Edwardian garden design, and is currently in the final stages of a ten year restoration programme, with the help of Heritage Lottery Funding. Restoration completed in recent years includes the Theatre Garden, Pompeian Garden, Herbaceous Border, Panel Garden, Reflecting Pool, Heather Garden and Fernery. Recently work has been undertaken on improving access for all visitors, glasshouses and the walled Kitchen Garden.

Visitors to Dyffryn Gardens, one of the UK's 'Premier Gardens', never fail to have their breath taken away at the sheer beauty and scale of the sight before them as they enter the estate.

The Theatre Garden
The theatre Garden is one of the many 'garden rooms' at Dyffryn. It is approached through a 'secret garden' walkway off the Great Lawn, and via the italian-style 'Cloisters', a gravel walk surrounded by sculpted yew hedges.

The stage is professionally lit and sound-equipped, and surrounding trees are washed with coloured light, so that as daylight fades, a special ambience is brought to the stage and surrounds which all adds to the magic of the open air theatre experience.

A purpose-built auditorium with tiered seating and a marquee-style canopy is erected specifically for the festival every year. Seating is un-numbered.
